7/2/2009 RoofersThere are R O O F E R S at my works. I don't know what the hell they are doing up there. They were here when I got here this morning. They are so noisy. They keep making a noise that makes the teeth in my mouth hurt. My boss is not here and I can't open the door or even the window. Grrrr Wasted sunny Seattle days.
I guess I get the next 3 days off and they are supposed to be sunny. It is just my teeth hurting that is really bugging me. 7/1/2009 More on Pet PeevesOk, I thought of 2 more pet peeves that have to do with where I work and I have more on the travelling thing - a confession to make.
First work -
My office is at a small airport. I work for a geotechical engineering company, which has nothing to do with planes but my boss loves to fly and has a plane that he has managed to make a "company" plane. So my office is called a Condo Hangar, meaning it is an airplane hangar with offices in it. The building across from us is an Airplane Restoration Museum. So they often have planes pulled out testing the engine. F O R E V E R. loud airplane or helicopter engines. Yesterday was one of those days. Yesterday was one of those rare sunny days in Seattle and my boss was gone so I had the front door open. I am not allowed to have the front door open when he's here because he swears flies come in. (the front door is in my office). But the damn helicopter was SO loud for SO long, I had to shut the door. It would stop for a couple hours then start up again. It happened 4 times. I had some work to do that I could do out side so I took it out, along with a portable phone and 5 minutes later it started up. GRRR
That was #1. #2 is the Jet Diesel smell. In the condo hangar behind us a millionaiire had a 12 seater jet that he flies to California once or twice a week for business. (or he flies his family to the Islands to their vacation home on the weekends...) He usually leaves about an hour before I get to work so there is little smell left by the time I get in but sometimes he leaves later. He lets that thing warm up (especially in the winter) for 15-30 minutes. Of jet diesel exhause right out our backdoor hangar that is not sealed. Can you say M-I-G-R-A-I-N-E? But I don't really have a choice. If it happened every day I wouldn't be able to work here. But once in awhile I can deal with, it is just annoying. The first time I tried to spray airfreshner and my boss just shook his head and said "That is NOT going to do ANYTHING"
OK, driving. Before California I was a more anal driver. I was one of those "The speed limit is 60 and I will go 65 but you shouldn't go faster than that." people. I would get in the left lane or the HOV lane and refuse to go more than 65. You can go around me. Bite me.
After California - those people piss me off! In California the speed limit is 70-75 but if you go 80 people pass you. They honk, they flip you off. They go 90. I stayed at 80. I came from Cali and I had trouble going less than 80 for awhile. I was only there for 2 months! How did that behavior change happen so fast? That was 2 years ago too! I typically go almost close to 70 most of the time now. I know, bad girl. 6/30/2009 Pet PeevesI have plenty of pet peeves, but most of them happen once in awhile. However, I have a HUGE pet peeve (or two) that happens EVERY DAY either on the way to work or the way home or both. And EVERY DAY I think "I HAVE TO BLOG ABOUT THIS, maybe getting it off my chest will relieve some of my anxiety."
The speed limit on the freeway is 60. If you are going 60 or even 65 and you see a police car - HE IS NOT GOING TO PULL YOU OVER. THERE IS NO REASON TO SLOW DOWN TO 50 or 55!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you NOT realize it F*CKS up the traffic? and almost give me whiplash? What ARE you thinking? Really? You can drive 65 right along size a police officer and there is a 99.9999% chance they are not going to do anything. If you slow down, they LAUGH at they power they have. ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE SOMEONE PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. How on earth do you think they are using the radar gun on you if you they have their head bent over someone's window? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, the other pet peeve. WHY are people all of a sudden driving 55 on the freeway? The speed limit is still 60. That is how they are driving at least the section of freeway I have to drive. AND almost every day I have to pass some who is driving 50-55 in the far LEFT lane! THAT IS ILLEGAL I BELIEVE. THAT IS IMPEDING TRAFFIC. If you want to drive that slow, stick the right lane. Do not get in the far left lane.
The other day there were 2 cars side by side driving about 50 - ON THE FREEWAY. I was in the left lane and there was one car ahead of me. He kept swerving over to the middle like he was thinking of driving between the two cars to get past them. Then we came to an exit and the car to the right got off so we both got to go around the idiot on the left. OH OH OH and the idiot in the left lane sped up to 60.
I used to think Road Rage was done by big steroid idiot men who were just impatient assholes. Now I am thinking that nice, decent people are turned into Road Ragers by the stupid, idiotic drivers out there. IT is the stupid stupid people that should have their licenses taken away that cause Road Rage. I am starting to think that instead of just going in to renew your license you should have to take a written test too.
Hey, I am feeling a little better. Until I drive again.
My other pet peeve that pops up quite often is Elevator courtesy. It really bugs me when I am on the elevator and the door opens and someone tries to come in before I get off. It is just courtesy and "elevator rules" that if you are waiting for an elevator, that when the doors open, you wait to see if anyone is getting off before you get on. Especially at the hospital 9 times out of 10, someone is on the elevator. Just wait your turn. 6/29/2009 I hate being sick!I gotta find an immune system building diet. All of a sudden Friday about 2:30 I felt like CRAP. Stomach pains, nauseous, just ICK. Different than my usual stomach stuff. I stuck it out at work until almost 3:30 then I started to panic. I was going to have any where from 8-14 13/14 y/o's at my house at 5:30. I thought if I went home and took some meds and put heat on my stomach and curled up in a ball for 2 hours that I would feel better.
Nope. N O P E. I got up at 5 to make the macaroni salad. Trying really hard to not whimper while I did it. My husband helped me. He shooed me back to bed and said he would handle the hot dogs. I got up later to do the cake and then again to do the presents. The rest of the time I was in bed. Horrendous stomach pains. I woke up Saturday with a migraine. I had had chills and fever all night and woke up soaking wet. I woke up about 9:30 and was asleep again about noon and didn't wake up until 6:30. I felt awful. Mo and I had plans at 7:00. I was even coherent enough to cancel them properly.
Sunday I woke with a new symptom that had me running to the bathroom all day. Body aches, headache, hot, no - cold, no - hot. ARGH
Woke up this morning still feeling crummy but here I am at work. Don't have much of a choice. 1)no sick leave 2) the lady who covers for me is on vacation. It is a one bathroom place. I am not sure how this is going to work. Someone is in there now (and has been for awhile) and I feel like I might have to run there shortly.
Punkers is never sick and she threw up twice yesterday. Whenever I get sick Jake gets sick (ALWAYS, I think it's in his head) so I am just waiting for it.
